GARY NEVILLE SLAMS REFEREE CHRIS KAVANAGH AS CHELSEA STAR AVOIDS RED CARD AGAINST TOTTENHAM! 😳

Gary Neville Questions Chris Kavanagh’s Decisions as Chelsea Star Escapes Red Card Against Tottenham

Former Manchester United defender and football pundit Gary Neville has criticised referee Chris Kavanagh following Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Neville believes Chelsea midfielder Morgan Rogers was lucky to remain on the pitch after a late challenge on former Blues midfielder Conor Gallagher during the closing stages of the London derby.

Neville Unhappy With Referee’s Decision

Tottenham produced an impressive performance to secure a memorable victory over their London rivals, but Chelsea’s disciplinary problems also attracted considerable attention.

Rogers was shown a yellow card after bringing Gallagher down with a late challenge. However, Neville felt the incident was serious enough to warrant a straight red card instead.

Speaking during Sky Sports’ live coverage, the former Manchester United captain expressed his disagreement with the referee’s decision and criticised Rogers for the nature of the challenge.

Neville also called on Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso to take action and regain control of his players after their frustration appeared to boil over during the match.

Cole Palmer Also Fortunate to Avoid an Earlier Red Card

Rogers was not the only Chelsea player whose actions attracted Neville’s criticism. The pundit also questioned why Cole Palmer was not dismissed earlier following a confrontation with Tottenham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Palmer reacted angrily after Fernandes was on the ground, making physical contact with the Spurs player. Kavanagh issued Palmer a yellow card, but Neville believed the incident could have justified a straight red.

The Chelsea forward was eventually sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a subsequent challenge on Gallagher.

Palmer’s dismissal left Chelsea with ten players during the closing stages, making an already difficult situation even worse for Alonso’s side.

Tottenham Take Advantage to Secure Victory

While Chelsea struggled to maintain their discipline, Tottenham made the most of their opportunities to claim all three points.

Spurs took the lead when Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders accidentally punched a corner into his own net while under pressure from Tottenham defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

Mathys Tel then produced an impressive individual effort to score Tottenham’s second goal, confirming a valuable 2-0 victory for Roberto De Zerbi’s team.

The result was particularly significant for Tottenham, who had struggled to secure victories at Stamford Bridge in recent years.

Alonso Must Address Chelsea’s Disciplinary Problems

Following the defeat, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso acknowledged that his team needed to improve its emotional control and decision-making, particularly when dealing with difficult moments during matches.

Palmer’s red card will also have consequences, with the midfielder set to miss Chelsea’s Carabao Cup encounter against Liverpool.

For Tottenham, the victory provided plenty of reasons to celebrate, as they impressed across key areas of the pitch and left their London rivals disappointed.

Neville’s criticism has added another layer of controversy to the derby, with questions continuing over whether Kavanagh made the correct decisions during several heated incidents.

The debate now centres on Chelsea’s lack of discipline and whether Rogers should have joined Palmer in receiving his marching orders.
