What Zidane said about Jeremy Jacquet injury as Liverpool defender to face further assessment

Liverpool are waiting for further information on the extent of Jeremy Jacquet’s injury after the defender was ruled out of France’s 4-1 victory over Belgium on Monday night.

The Liverpool centre-back had enjoyed an impressive international break, making his first two senior appearances for France and receiving plenty of praise from head coach Zinedine Zidane and his teammates for his performances.

However, the French Football Federation confirmed that Jacquet missed the Belgium clash because of a strain to his left hamstring.

What did Zidane say about Jacquet?

Speaking after the match, Zidane explained that he needed to carefully manage his players after France had played four matches in just 11 days.

The France boss described Jacquet as being “slightly injured” and decided not to take any unnecessary risks with the 21-year-old. Liverpool Echo reporter Ian Doyle has also indicated that Jacquet will return to Merseyside, where he will undergo further assessment.

Liverpool waiting on Jacquet ahead of Man City clash

Liverpool will now hope their young defender can recover in time for next Sunday’s huge Premier League meeting with Manchester City at Anfield.

The 4:30pm kick-off gives Jacquet some additional time to recover, which will come as a boost to Liverpool as they assess his fitness ahead of the crucial fixture.

Jacquet has quickly established himself as an impressive partner alongside Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s defence, making his potential absence a major concern.

The match against the league leaders is expected to provide one of the toughest tests yet of Andoni Iraola’s reign, particularly with Erling Haaland expected to be available for City.

Liverpool are already facing the possibility of being without Cody Gakpo after the forward picked up an injury while on international duty with the Netherlands.

Losing both Gakpo and Jacquet for such an important game would be a major blow, especially considering how influential the pair have been during the early stages of the season.

Liverpool fans will now be hoping for positive news on Jacquet as the Reds prepare to welcome Manchester City to Anfield in what promises to be a huge Premier League encounter.
