Harry Kane has made his feelings clear on a potential return to Tottenham as his future at Bayern Munich continues to attract attention.
The former Tottenham striker is reportedly “very close” to agreeing a new contract with Bayern Munich, potentially putting an immediate return to North London on hold.
Kane left Tottenham in the summer of 2023, joining Bayern in a deal worth around £100 million. Since making the move to Germany, the England captain has enjoyed an extraordinary spell, scoring 152 goals in 154 appearances and helping Bayern secure two Bundesliga titles.
He has also claimed the Bundesliga Golden Boot in each of his three seasons in Germany.
Kane’s current Bayern contract is due to expire at the end of the season, which has naturally sparked speculation over whether the 33-year-old could eventually return to the Premier League.
A Tottenham comeback has been mentioned, given Kane’s legendary status at the club and his long-standing connection with the supporters. However, the latest update suggests that an immediate reunion is becoming less likely.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Kane is now very close to putting pen to paper on a fresh Bayern agreement, with only a few details reportedly left to resolve.
One particularly interesting part of the negotiations concerns a possible Premier League return. Reports claim the new agreement could include a clause giving Tottenham matching rights if another English top-flight club makes an offer for Kane.
That would potentially give Spurs an important position should Kane decide to return to England in the future.
The length of the proposed extension has not yet been confirmed, but the inclusion of Premier League-related terms could keep the door open for a return to English football further down the line.
Tottenham have undergone significant changes since Kane’s departure, with Roberto De Zerbi now in charge and the club bringing in a host of new players during the summer transfer window.
Andy Robertson, Martin Dubravka and Marcos Senesi arrived as free agents, while Mykhailo Mudryk and Omar Marmoush joined on loan.
Spurs also completed permanent deals for Jan Paul van Hecke, Savio, Tosin Adarabioyo, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
For now, though, Kane appears to be preparing to extend his stay in Munich. A return to Tottenham may not be happening immediately, but the reported Premier League clause could ensure that the possibility remains alive in the years ahead.
