Liverpool Monitoring Tyler Morton as Former Midfielder Attracts Premier League Interest
Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on former academy midfielder Tyler Morton following his impressive development at Lyon.
Morton left Liverpool in 2025 after struggling to secure regular first-team opportunities at Anfield. Since moving to France, however, the 23-year-old has established himself as an important player for Lyon and has continued to develop through consistent first-team football.
The midfielder joined Lyon for an initial fee of around £10 million, with the transfer potentially rising to £15 million. Liverpool also negotiated a 20% sell-on clause, meaning the Reds could benefit financially from any future transfer involving Morton.
Liverpool Continue to Follow Morton
Reports indicate that Liverpool remain interested in Morton’s progress and are among a number of Premier League clubs monitoring his performances.
His form has attracted attention because he has become a regular starter under Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca. After leaving Liverpool, Morton has gained valuable experience and taken on a much greater role in midfield.
During the previous Ligue 1 campaign, he made 29 appearances, starting every league match he played, while contributing two goals and two assists. His involvement has continued this season, with the midfielder featuring regularly for Lyon in both domestic and European competition.
His passing has also been one of the notable aspects of his performances. UEFA figures reportedly show that Morton recorded a 93% passing accuracy across his Champions League qualifying appearances.
Growing Premier League Competition
Liverpool are not the only English club watching Morton.
Reports suggest that as many as seven Premier League clubs are monitoring the midfielder, with Newcastle United, Everton, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Brighton among those linked alongside Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
That growing interest reflects the progress Morton has made since leaving Anfield. He has moved from being a young player struggling for minutes at Liverpool to an established midfielder receiving significant responsibility at Lyon.
Could Liverpool Bring Him Back?
A possible return to Liverpool would represent an interesting development, but there is currently no indication that an agreement is close.
Liverpool are reportedly considering several midfield options, with Morton being one of the players they are monitoring. His familiarity with the club could be useful, but any potential move would depend on whether Liverpool believe his improved qualities fit their current midfield requirements.
