Tottenham Linked With Shock Replacement for Roberto De Zerbi
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly facing growing pressure after a disappointing beginning to the Premier League season, with the club currently sitting at the bottom of the table.
Roberto De Zerbi’s team have yet to record a league victory and have also struggled badly in front of goal. Those problems have inevitably led to questions about the Italian manager’s future, particularly after Spurs invested heavily in their squad during the summer transfer window.
Arne Slot Emerges as a Potential Tottenham Option
Despite the poor results, Tottenham are not believed to be actively preparing to dismiss De Zerbi at this point.
However, reports suggest that Liverpool manager Arne Slot could potentially become an option if Spurs eventually decide to make a change.
According to ESPN sources, Slot could be open to considering the Tottenham job should the club approach him. The Dutchman was previously a serious candidate for the Spurs position in 2023, before Tottenham ultimately appointed Ange Postecoglou.
Slot eventually moved to Liverpool, where he enjoyed an outstanding first season by guiding the club to the Premier League title. His second campaign has reportedly been less impressive, but his achievements at Anfield have established him as one of the leading coaches in European football.
A move to Manchester United is also reportedly unlikely because of the intense rivalry between Liverpool and United.
Sources indicate that Tottenham’s previous interest in Slot could potentially make him receptive to another approach, although the situation would depend heavily on how circumstances develop at Spurs.
Spurs Should Give De Zerbi More Time
Although Tottenham’s start has been extremely disappointing, there is an argument that replacing De Zerbi now would be premature.
The Italian was given substantial backing during the summer, with Spurs bringing in a large number of new players as part of a major squad rebuild.
With so many changes made, the team may need time to adapt to De Zerbi’s methods, tactical demands and style of play.
The lack of goals and absence of victories are obviously concerning, but changing managers so early could create even more instability at a club that has already undergone significant changes.
Slot would undoubtedly be an attractive candidate because of his success with Liverpool and his previous connection to the Tottenham vacancy.
However, there is currently no indication that Spurs are preparing to make an immediate managerial change.
For now, De Zerbi remains in charge, and the club will hope that results improve quickly enough to remove the growing pressure surrounding his position.
