Andy Robertson gets a huge Anfield reception on Tottenham return

Andy Robertson received an emotional welcome from Liverpool supporters as he returned to Anfield for the first time since leaving the club, this time wearing the Tottenham Hotspur shirt.

The Scottish left-back started the Carabao Cup clash on Tottenham’s bench. With Spurs 2–0 down, Robertson was introduced in the 57th minute, replacing Destiny Udogie. As his substitution was announced over the stadium PA system, the volume inside Anfield noticeably increased, with supporters from all four stands giving their former player a huge cheer.

Robertson, who spent around nine years at Liverpool, became a major figure during one of the club’s most successful periods. He was part of the Liverpool side that won major honours, including the Premier League and Champions League, and developed a particularly strong connection with the supporters.

Although he was now representing Tottenham and trying to help Spurs fight their way back into the match, Liverpool fans made it clear that their appreciation for their former left-back remains strong. The reception was widely described as a warm and emotional moment during his first return to Anfield.

The match itself eventually ended Liverpool 3–1 Tottenham, with Liverpool progressing in the Carabao Cup. Robertson’s return therefore came on a night when his former club celebrated victory, but the biggest moment for him personally was the reception from the Anfield crowd.
