Liverpool teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez shared a special moment during Hungary’s 1–0 Nations League victory over Georgia.
Kerkez scored the only goal of the match in the 35th minute, heading Hungary in front for his first senior international goal. The goal proved decisive as Hungary held on for the win.
After the goal, Szoboszlai celebrated with his teammates before noticing a Hungarian flag lying on the pitch. The Liverpool midfielder picked it up and kissed it before returning to the celebrations. The emotional gesture was not shown clearly during the television broadcast but was later captured on video.
Szoboszlai, who captained Hungary, was also delighted with Kerkez’s unlikely goal. He said a headed goal from the Liverpool left-back was the last thing he expected, but he was happy to see his teammate score his first goal for the national team. He praised Kerkez’s commitment, saying the defender gives everything for the team.
The victory was particularly important for Hungary because it was their first win of the Nations League campaign after a defeat to Ukraine and a draw with Northern Ireland. Kerkez was later booked for the second time in the competition and will miss Hungary’s next match against Ukraine through suspension.
Meanwhile, Kerkez and Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, both Liverpool teammates, shared a friendly moment after the final whistle despite Kerkez scoring against him. The two embraced and laughed together after the match.
