I think it is…’ – What Rio Ngumoha has now said about his contract situation at Liverpool

Rio Ngumoha is keeping his composure amid growing speculation surrounding his contract situation at Liverpool, with the teenager recently linked with a potential move to Arsenal.

Reports emerged during the autumn suggesting that Arsenal were monitoring the young winger. However, there is reportedly optimism within Liverpool that the youngster will commit his long-term future to the club.

Ngumoha’s current contract runs until June 2028, but having turned 18 in late August, he is now eligible to sign an extended deal that would include a significant pay rise in recognition of his growing importance to the first team.

Ngumoha Provides Update on His Contract Situation

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo following Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday, Ngumoha played down the speculation surrounding his future, explaining that his agent is handling negotiations behind the scenes.

The winger said:

“To be fair, that is all with my agent now. I think it is all going well. I am not too sure. I just let the football do the talking at the end of the day.

“I enjoy playing and all of that stuff about contracts is in the back of my mind really. I just play for the club, play for Liverpool and hopefully I can carry on doing well.”

His comments suggest that he remains focused on his performances rather than allowing discussions about his future to become a distraction.

Liverpool Have Time to Secure Ngumoha’s Future

With his existing contract not expiring until the summer of 2028, Liverpool still have time to reach an agreement with the winger’s representatives over a new long-term deal.

Despite Liverpool strengthening their attacking options with the arrivals of Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola, Ngumoha has continued to feature regularly. The 18-year-old has appeared in eight of the club’s first 10 matches this season, starting four of them, demonstrating the level of trust Andoni Iraola has placed in him.

Although he is yet to find the net this season, Ngumoha has continued to show the qualities that made him one of Liverpool’s most exciting young prospects during the 2025/26 campaign. His impressive display in the Champions League victory over LASK further highlighted his potential.

From Liverpool’s perspective, securing his future should be a priority. The club worked hard to bring him in from Chelsea’s academy in 2024, navigating the necessary administrative procedures to complete the move.

Allowing a player with his potential to leave without making a serious effort to retain him would represent a significant setback, particularly given his growing involvement at senior level.

Newly appointed sporting director Julian Ward could also make a positive early statement by helping secure a new contract for the highly rated winger, ensuring Liverpool retain one of their brightest emerging talents for years to come.
