Liverpool have confirmed that Alexander Isak has returned from Sweden international duty because of a minor injury, putting his availability for the Reds’ huge Premier League meeting with Manchester City on October 11 under attention.
Isak had been in good form for Liverpool, scoring four Premier League goals in his first five appearances this season. He also scored for Sweden in their 2–1 Nations League victory over Romania on September 25. However, he picked up an injury during that game.
Sweden manager Graham Potter explained that Isak initially appeared to have suffered only a knock, but the problem became clearer in the following 24–48 hours. Potter described it as a small thigh problem, stressing that it was not considered a serious injury but was enough to rule the striker out of Sweden’s remaining fixtures during the international break.
Liverpool confirmed that Isak would return to the club, where he would be assessed by the medical team at the AXA Training Centre. The club did not provide a specific recovery timeline.
That leaves Isak’s participation against Manchester City uncertain for now. Liverpool’s next league fixture is against City at Anfield on Sunday, October 11, giving the striker several days to recover.
The injury is particularly significant because Liverpool could potentially be without other attacking options too. Cody Gakpo has also suffered an injury while on international duty, increasing the importance of Isak’s recovery ahead of the City game.
For now, Liverpool have not ruled Isak out of the Manchester City clash. The key factor will be how he responds to treatment and whether he can return to full training before the match.
