João Palhinha is set to rejoin Sporting CP after Tottenham Hotspur opted not to activate their €30 million purchase option.

João Palhinha is closing in on a move back to Sporting CP after Tottenham Hotspur decided against activating the €30 million clause in his loan agreement.

The Portuguese midfielder spent the season with Spurs after arriving from Bayern Munich and was widely expected to remain in North London, especially after Roberto De Zerbi publicly expressed his desire to keep him. However, Palhinha has now bid farewell to the club on social media, signaling the end of his Tottenham spell.

Sporting are currently negotiating with Bayern Munich to bring the 30-year-old back to Portugal. While the German champions are pushing for a permanent transfer, Sporting are reportedly hoping to secure an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

Palhinha is said to be willing to reduce his salary to complete the move. His departure means Tottenham will need to explore alternative midfield options as De Zerbi prepares for a major squad rebuild.

During his time with Spurs, Palhinha made 45 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing three assists. Reports suggest a significant summer clear-out is on the horizon, with as many as 16 players potentially leaving the club.
