Fabrizio Romano: Joao Palhinha Prioritising Tottenham Stay This Summer
Tottenham Hotspur have received a significant boost ahead of the summer transfer window, with midfielder Joao Palhinha reportedly making a permanent move to Spurs his preferred option.
The Portuguese international spent last season on loan from Bayern Munich and played a crucial role in Tottenham’s successful fight against relegation. Palhinha delivered several important performances throughout the campaign, including scoring the decisive goal in the final-day victory over Everton that secured Premier League survival.
Recent reports suggested that Palhinha was close to returning to Sporting CP, with discussions ongoing between the Portuguese side and Bayern Munich. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano now claims the 30-year-old is placing Tottenham ahead of all other options, largely due to his strong relationship with manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Despite De Zerbi’s admiration for the midfielder, Tottenham have yet to make a final decision on activating a permanent deal. If Spurs choose to negotiate an agreement with Bayern or trigger their purchase option, Palhinha is expected to remain in North London.
Should Tottenham decide against a move, Sporting CP are prepared to step up their pursuit and bring the experienced midfielder back to Lisbon.
As Spurs prepare for a pivotal summer rebuild, retaining a player of Palhinha’s quality, leadership, and experience could prove invaluable. With all parties seemingly open to a deal, the opportunity is there for Tottenham to secure the services of a player who has already shown his importance to the club.
