Tottenham have continued their active summer transfer window by confirming the permanent departure of Alejo Veliz.
The 22-year-old Argentine striker will officially join Brazilian club Bahia on July 1 after the two clubs agreed a deal reportedly worth around €9 million (£7.7 million), bringing an end to a disappointing spell in north London.
Veliz arrived from Rosario Central in a £13 million move during the summer of 2023, alongside Micky van de Ven’s arrival from Wolfsburg. However, he struggled to establish himself, making just eight first-team appearances across all competitions.
His only goal for Spurs came under Ange Postecoglou in December 2023, when he came off the bench to score in a 4-2 Premier League defeat at Brighton.
The striker spent much of his Tottenham career out on loan, first with Sevilla, then Espanyol for the 2024/25 season, before returning to Rosario Central last term, where he scored six goals in 24 appearances.
Although his contract ran until 2029, Spurs have opted to sanction a permanent exit. In an official statement, the club said: “We wish him well for the future.”
Veliz’s departure is the latest move in what has been a busy summer for Tottenham as Roberto De Zerbi reshapes his squad ahead of his first full campaign in charge. Spurs are pushing to sign midfield targets Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, while Ben Davies has signed a new contract. Yves Bissouma is among 11 players to leave, and Lucas Bergvall has reportedly requested to move on.
The club have also been linked with wide attackers Marcus Rashford and Savinho, as well as England goalkeeper James Trafford, as they continue their major squad overhaul following consecutive 17th-place Premier League finishes and last season’s dramatic escape from relegation.
