Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup is emerging as a serious target for Tottenham after attracting interest from several top European clubs. Spurs were first linked with the 22-year-old earlier this week, with reports claiming Liverpool are also monitoring the Norwegian following his rapid rise over the past six months.
Italian sides AC Milan and Como, along with Atletico Madrid, are also believed to be in the race, but Tottenham may have a key advantage. According to Portuguese outlet Record, Schjelderup has long dreamed of playing in the Premier League and is especially keen on a move to England.
The Norway international further boosted his reputation with an eye-catching substitute appearance in his country’s 3-2 World Cup victory over Senegal, increasing interest in his signature. Benfica are now finding it increasingly difficult to fend off admirers and are eager to keep hold of the talented winger.
The Portuguese giants have offered Schjelderup a new five-year contract that would reportedly double his salary to around £3.1 million per season. However, the player has yet to respond to the proposal, while Benfica are understood to be open to offers starting at around £34.4 million (€40m) if a suitable bid arrives.
