Liverpool have officially opened negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over a move for Bradley Barcola, with the Reds submitting an opening offer worth more than €100 million (£85.6m).
According to Fabrizio Romano, club-to-club discussions are now underway, although Liverpool’s initial proposal falls well short of PSG’s asking price. Reports in France claim the Ligue 1 champions are demanding closer to €170m (£145m) before considering a sale.

PSG standing firm on valuation
The sizeable gap between Liverpool’s bid and PSG’s valuation suggests negotiations could still take some time. Romano noted that while talks have begun, the Merseyside club’s offer remains “far from PSG requests,” making a quick breakthrough unlikely.

If discussions continue into the coming weeks, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and the club’s recruitment team will have even less time to complete additional signings before the transfer window closes.
Liverpool face a difficult decision
Having pursued Barcola for much of the summer, Liverpool are now heavily invested in the deal. Walking away at this stage would be a major setback, particularly given the limited number of elite alternatives available on the market.

However, with fewer than a month remaining before the transfer deadline, the Reds cannot afford to let one negotiation delay the rest of their transfer plans. Manager Andoni Iraola still needs further reinforcements, and spending weeks trying to reduce PSG’s demands could disrupt the club’s wider recruitment strategy.
Ideally, Liverpool will already have other deals lined up and ready to progress once there is greater clarity over their remaining transfer budget.
Confidence remains over a compromise
Despite PSG’s lofty valuation, there is optimism that Liverpool can eventually agree a fee below the French club’s initial demands.
PSG also appear to be preparing for life without Barcola, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Mika Godts among the attacking options expected to compete for starting places, reducing the likelihood of the French winger playing a central role if he remains in Paris.
For now, negotiations continue, with Liverpool hoping to bridge the gap and secure one of their top transfer targets before the window closes.
