10 Andy Robertson stats prove De Zerbi was right about ‘best’ Tottenham claim

Andy Robertson delivers impressive display for Scotland as Tottenham claim gets another boost

Tottenham defender Andy Robertson produced an impressive performance as Scotland were held to a goalless draw by Slovenia in their Nations League opener.

The experienced left-back was Roberto De Zerbi’s first signing at Tottenham and has arguably adapted faster than any of the club’s other summer arrivals.

Robertson has featured more regularly than initially expected, partly because Destiny Udogie is still building up his fitness following a difficult couple of seasons with injuries.

De Zerbi has previously claimed that Tottenham possess the best full-back options in the Premier League, and Robertson’s latest international display offered further evidence of why the Spurs boss has such confidence in him.

Playing as a left wing-back, Robertson was Scotland’s highest-rated outfield player on FotMob, earning a 7.9 rating.

The 32-year-old was a constant threat going forward, completing two dribbles and recording five touches inside Slovenia’s penalty area.

He completed 46 of 55 passes, giving him an 84 per cent passing accuracy, while also making four passes into the final third and delivering three successful crosses.

Robertson created three chances during the 90 minutes and registered an expected assist figure of 0.29.

He was equally effective defensively, recording seven recoveries, one clearance, one tackle and one interception. He also won four of his seven ground duels and all three aerial challenges he contested.

Despite Tottenham’s difficult start to the season, Robertson remains confident that the team can turn things around.

The former Liverpool player has admitted that struggling for results is unfamiliar after spending nine successful seasons at Anfield, but he believes there have been encouraging signs in Spurs’ performances.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Robertson said the team had shown positives despite failing to collect the results they wanted. He felt the draw against Nottingham Forest was fair, believed Spurs deserved more against Everton and said their match against Newcastle was competitive for around an hour.

Robertson believes Tottenham’s first league victory could be the turning point and expects the team to perform strongly once they get that breakthrough win.
