Liverpool injury update: Cody Gakpo a doubt for Fulham

Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has provided an update on Cody Gakpo ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Fulham at Anfield.

Gakpo picked up an adductor problem during Liverpool’s recent win over Ipswich. He was subsequently left out of the 2–1 Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid as a precaution.

Iraola admitted that he cannot guarantee Gakpo will be fit for Fulham. The Liverpool boss explained that Gakpo does not have a serious injury but experienced discomfort in both adductors, and the short recovery period makes his availability uncertain.

“I hope so, but I don’t know.”

Iraola also confirmed that Bradley Barcola’s withdrawal against Atlético was due to cramp rather than a serious injury. Liverpool will monitor both players during the recovery period before making a decision on Saturday.

Gakpo’s possible absence would be a concern for Liverpool considering his strong start to the campaign, with one goal and three assists after three games, according to the report. Liverpool already have Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa unavailable.

With Liverpool also facing Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, Iraola could choose to be cautious with Gakpo and Barcola rather than risk aggravating their problems.

Bottom line: There is no indication that Gakpo has suffered a major injury, but he is a doubt for Fulham, and Liverpool will assess him during the final recovery period before Saturday’s game.
