Rio Ngumoha reveals what Andoni Iraola wants him to improve

Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha has revealed that manager Andoni Iraola wants him to improve the defensive side of his game.

After Liverpool’s victory over Atlético Madrid, the 18-year-old explained that Iraola already knows he possesses strong attacking qualities, but believes he must become more effective defensively if he wants to establish himself in the team.

Ngumoha said the message from the manager is clear: being good in attack alone is not enough. He needs to contribute defensively and understand his responsibilities without the ball.

“The manager knows I’m good at attacking but to play you have to be good at defending as well…”

The youngster has impressed with his confidence and attacking ability, but Iraola appears determined to develop him into a more complete player. The coach’s demands reflect the importance he places on defensive work, intensity and discipline across the team.

Ngumoha also spoke about the atmosphere at Anfield, describing the roar of the stadium as “crazy.”

For Liverpool fans, the development is encouraging. Ngumoha’s attacking talent is already evident, and if he can add the defensive discipline Iraola is demanding, he could become an even more important player for Liverpool.
