Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 by the Football Association (FA) for his actions following Liverpool’s 2–2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield on August 29.
The incident happened after the final whistle. Alisson, clearly frustrated by the events of the match, was seen kicking the fourth official’s electronic substitution board as he headed towards the tunnel. The board had already caused controversy during the game after malfunctioning and delaying a Liverpool triple substitution.
Alisson’s frustration was also linked to Forest’s second goal. The Brazilian had been penalised for a challenge on former Liverpool player Neco Williams, with Morgan Gibbs-White converting the resulting penalty to put Forest 2–1 ahead.
There was further controversy after the match when the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel ruled that the penalty should not have been awarded. The panel considered the contact from Alisson insufficient for a penalty, although it agreed that VAR had been right not to intervene because the decision did not meet the threshold for a clear and obvious error.
The FA subsequently charged Alisson with misconduct, alleging that he “acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area” after the final whistle. The Liverpool goalkeeper accepted the charge and received the standard £8,000 penalty.
Despite the controversial circumstances, Alisson remains available for Liverpool and is expected to move on from the incident as the Reds continue their campaign.
What do you think, Liverpool fans — was Alisson right to be angry, or did he go too far?
