Tottenham Suffer Fresh Micky Van de Ven Injury Scare
Tottenham Hotspur have been handed another injury concern after captain Micky van de Ven was forced off during the Netherlands’ 2–1 Nations League victory over Serbia.
The centre-back picked up the problem late in the match after Serbia forward Luka Jović accidentally landed on and stepped on his hand during a challenge. Van de Ven immediately appeared to be in discomfort and received attention from the Dutch medical team.
Despite trying to continue after having his fingers strapped, the Tottenham defender eventually had to leave the pitch. The Netherlands had already used all their substitutions, meaning they finished the game with 10 players.
The incident naturally raised concerns at Tottenham, particularly with Spurs preparing for their Premier League return against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
However, there was some relief after Netherlands manager Xavi Hernández played down the seriousness of the injury. He explained that Van de Ven had experienced dizziness because of the pain in his finger but insisted that it was not a major problem.
Van de Ven will now return to Tottenham, where the club’s medical staff will assess the injury before deciding whether he can feature against Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has become an important part of Roberto De Zerbi’s defence and has also taken on greater responsibility after being named Tottenham captain.
Spurs are already dealing with defensive concerns, with Jan Paul van Hecke also suffering a foot problem while on international duty. Reports suggest Van Hecke’s injury is also not expected to keep him out for a lengthy period.
Tottenham will therefore hope both defenders can recover quickly, as their defensive options could be stretched ahead of the crucial trip to Manchester.
For now, the latest news surrounding Van de Ven is relatively positive. While the injury is another setback, early indications suggest it is minor rather than a serious long-term problem.
