Tottenham Face Major Condition If They Want Harry Kane Back
Tottenham Hotspur may have to make significant progress on the pitch if they want any realistic chance of bringing Harry Kane back to North London.
Kane, who moved from Spurs to Bayern Munich in 2023 for around £86.4 million, has entered the final year of his current Bayern contract. His future has therefore become a subject of growing speculation.
However, the England captain recently admitted that his desire to return to the Premier League is not as strong as it once was.
Speaking to FourFourTwo after winning his second European Golden Shoe, Kane explained that returning to England was something he expected to do when he initially left Tottenham. But after spending several years in Germany, his perspective has changed.
The Bayern striker said he is now very happy in Munich and that playing outside England has given him a different appreciation of football. Although he has not completely ruled out a Premier League return, his immediate focus remains on Bayern and winning more trophies.
Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood believes there could still be a route for Kane to return to England. However, he feels the striker would only be seriously tempted if a Premier League club capable of competing for major honours made an approach.
Sherwood also suggested that Kane still has several productive years ahead of him. He praised the striker’s fitness, intelligence and technical ability, arguing that Kane does not rely solely on physical movement but uses his understanding of the game to remain effective.
According to Sherwood, several clubs would be interested if Kane became available. Nevertheless, he questioned why the striker would leave Bayern while playing for a successful team.
Barcelona could also be an attractive destination for Kane if he decides to leave Germany, particularly given the club’s current ambitions. But a Premier League contender could potentially change the situation.
For Tottenham, that creates a major challenge. If Spurs want to convince their former captain to return, Sherwood believes they would need to establish themselves as genuine Premier League title contenders.
At present, however, Tottenham have considerable work to do. With the club sitting at the bottom of the table after five matches, a potential Kane return appears dependent on a dramatic improvement in their fortunes under Roberto De Zerbi.
For now, Kane remains focused on Bayern Munich, while Tottenham’s ability to compete at the highest level could become a key factor if the striker eventually considers a return to England.
