Vinai Venkatesham outlines Tottenham’s next five key priorities

Vinai Venkatesham reveals Tottenham’s next five areas of focus

Tottenham Hotspur CEO Vinai Venkatesham has outlined five important areas the club intends to concentrate on as it looks to build a stronger and more sustainable future.

Venkatesham’s comments come during a difficult period for Spurs, who have made major changes to their squad and football operation but have struggled for results at the beginning of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign. Despite the disappointing points total, the chief executive has expressed confidence in Roberto De Zerbi and believes there have been positive signs in the team’s underlying performances.

One of Tottenham’s priorities is improving the football operation. Venkatesham has previously said that, after assessing the club when he arrived, he felt a significant reset was required in several areas, particularly around the football side of the organisation.

Another major focus is player recruitment and trading. Spurs spent heavily during the summer, committing more than £380 million to new arrivals, while also generating significant money from player departures. The club wants to become more effective at identifying players, developing them and making decisions about when the right time is to sell.

Injury prevention and player availability are also high on the agenda. Tottenham have been working to strengthen their medical, physical-performance and conditioning departments, with the aim of keeping more players available throughout the season.

The academy and development of young players represents another important part of the long-term plan. Spurs want to strengthen the pathway between their youth setup and the senior team while continuing to develop players who can contribute at first-team level.

Finally, Venkatesham has emphasised the need to improve the club’s football infrastructure, expertise and performance environment. Although Tottenham’s training centre is already regarded as an outstanding facility, he has indicated that changes are needed to make it more focused on elite sporting performance rather than simply looking like a premium facility.

The CEO’s broader message is that Tottenham are undergoing substantial changes both on and off the pitch. The club has brought in new players, changed personnel and invested heavily, but Venkatesham believes these changes will require time before their full impact can be seen.

For Spurs, the objective is to create a football operation capable of producing consistent success while also making the club more sustainable over the long term.
