Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili could reportedly leave the club in 2027 if Alisson Becker signs a new contract, according to comments from The Athletic journalist James Pearce.
Alisson’s current Liverpool contract is due to expire next summer, and there have reportedly been no talks over a new deal yet. The Brazilian has been Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper for around eight years, while Mamardashvili joined from Valencia in 2025 as his long-term understudy.
Mamardashvili has made 21 appearances for Liverpool so far, but Pearce suggested that the Georgian international may not accept remaining second choice for a third consecutive season if Alisson extends his stay.
Pearce said that if Alisson remains at Anfield, Mamardashvili would probably leave, opening the door for Liverpool to reshape their goalkeeping options.
Liverpool have also recently signed young Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk for around £30 million, while Vítězslav Jaroš is expected to return from his loan spell and Armin Pecsi is developing on loan in Austria.
The situation therefore leaves Liverpool with an important decision to make: extend Alisson’s contract and potentially risk losing Mamardashvili, or allow the Brazilian to leave and give Mamardashvili a pathway to becoming the club’s long-term No. 1.
For now, however, this is a reported possibility rather than a confirmed transfer decision.
