Tottenham explore deal for 250-goal striker in free transfer to immediately boost De Zerbi

Tottenham consider Mauro Icardi as free-agent solution to scoring struggles

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for former Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi as they search for an experienced forward who could help address their early-season goalscoring problems.

Spurs have endured another difficult start to the Premier League campaign under Roberto De Zerbi, with the club currently sitting 17th after four league matches. Their opening two fixtures ended in defeats to Brentford and Newcastle United, before consecutive goalless draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton.

Tottenham did produce an emphatic 5-1 victory over Charlton in the Carabao Cup, but their run in the competition came to an end on Tuesday when Liverpool defeated them 3-1.

The bigger concern for De Zerbi, however, is Tottenham’s lack of goals in the Premier League. Spurs are still waiting for their first league goal of the season, increasing pressure on the manager and his attacking options.

De Zerbi also attracted criticism following his touchline exchange with Mathys Tel during the 0-0 draw against Everton. The Italian coach later explained that he was trying to guide the young forward on how to position himself as a striker.

With Tottenham struggling to find the net, reports from Italy suggest the club could explore the free-agent market, with Mauro Icardi emerging as one potential option.

Icardi reportedly on Tottenham’s radar

According to reports relayed by LaLazioSiamoNoi from Cronache di Spogliatoio, Tottenham have been assessing Icardi’s situation as they look for an experienced solution to their attacking problems.

The former Argentina international has built an impressive goalscoring record during his career, reportedly reaching 250 club goals. His experience at the highest level could make him an attractive option for Spurs if they decide to pursue a free transfer.

However, Tottenham are not believed to be the only club interested. Lazio have also reportedly shown an interest in the striker.

Icardi is said to be carefully considering his next move and does not want to accept just any offer. Reports claim that the striker wants to finish his career as part of an ambitious project and has already turned down several proposals.

A move to Tottenham would therefore depend not only on the club’s interest but also on whether their project matches Icardi’s ambitions.

Spurs remain confident despite lack of goals

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has played down concerns surrounding the team’s failure to score in the Premier League.

Following the goalless draw against Everton, the defender acknowledged that Tottenham need to be more clinical but argued that the team is creating enough opportunities.

Van de Ven said the lack of goals should not yet be viewed as a major problem because Spurs have been able to dominate games and create chances.

He also rejected the idea that Tottenham’s struggles are necessarily psychological, insisting that the squad simply needs to improve its decision-making in the final third.

For De Zerbi, though, finding a reliable source of goals has quickly become one of the biggest challenges of the new campaign. With Icardi reportedly available as a free agent, Tottenham could now consider whether the experienced striker is the answer to their early-season attacking problems.
