Tottenham Hotspur are not currently engaged in advanced talks with Napoli over midfielder Antonio Vergara, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Spurs are aiming to act swiftly in the transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad after narrowly escaping Premier League relegation on the final day of the season.
Free deals for Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson and Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi are already in place, although official confirmation is still pending. Both transfers are expected to go through without any major issues.
Joao Palhinha, who spent the season on loan at Spurs from Bayern Munich, is not expected to make his move to North London permanent, which could open space in midfield for new arrivals like Vergara.
Italian reports recently suggested Spurs were preparing a strong offer for the 23-year-old, with Napoli reportedly open to selling him.
However, Romano clarified in a YouTube update that there are no advanced or concrete negotiations between the two clubs, adding that there is currently no direct contact with Tottenham.
Despite this, a potential move has not been completely ruled out. Napoli are preparing for a managerial change, with Massimiliano Allegri expected to take charge, and Vergara’s future may depend on how he fits into the new coach’s plans.
Tottenham, under Roberto De Zerbi, are also expected to be active in the market as they rebuild their squad. With no European football next season, smart recruitment will be key, and free signings like Robertson and Senesi are seen as positive steps, though further investment is still needed.
Vergara remains under contract with Napoli until 2030, meaning any deal would likely require a significant fee if he is to leave this summer.
