Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a third summer signing after reportedly making an irresistible offer for a highly-rated Serie A midfielder.
Spurs have already agreed free-transfer deals for Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi following Roberto De Zerbi’s successful fight to keep the club in the Premier League on the final day of the season against Everton.
Now, the North London side are wasting no time strengthening ahead of next season, with reports in Italy claiming Tottenham are close to landing Napoli midfielder Antonio Vergara.
The 23-year-old, described as a “dangerous” talent, featured 19 times for Napoli this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists as the Italian side secured Champions League qualification once again.
De Zerbi is believed to be a long-time admirer of Vergara after monitoring him closely over the past year, and Spurs are now preparing a lucrative contract offer that the player reportedly sees as impossible to turn down.
Napoli are said to be open to negotiations for the right price, with talks progressing positively as Tottenham push to complete another major signing before the transfer window officially opens.
With several senior players expected to leave after Spurs missed out on European football, De Zerbi is determined to reshape the squad in his image and strengthen key areas — particularly in midfield.
While Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr remain important options, uncertainty surrounding Joao Palhinha’s future could open the door for Vergara to become Tottenham’s next midfield addition.
