Bad News for Liverpool as Andoni Iraola Issues Concerning Injury Update

Liverpool injury concern as Iraola gives worrying update

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has admitted there is uncertainty over Cody Gakpo’s availability for the Reds’ Premier League meeting with Fulham after the forward missed the Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid.

Gakpo was left out of Liverpool’s squad for the 2–1 win at Anfield because of a minor adductor issue. Iraola explained that the problem was not considered serious, but the short turnaround before the Fulham game means the club will have to assess him carefully.

There was also an injury scare during the Atlético match when Bradley Barcola was substituted. However, Iraola confirmed that the £123m winger was suffering from cramp rather than an injury. Barcola is still building his fitness after having little or no pre-season with PSG, so Liverpool are managing his minutes carefully.

Milos Kerkez also experienced cramp and was taken off late in the game. Iraola indicated that his substitution was related to physical fatigue rather than a serious injury.

The biggest immediate concern, therefore, is Gakpo, with Iraola unsure whether the Dutchman will recover in time for Fulham. Liverpool will continue monitoring him before making a final decision.

Liverpool go into the Fulham match on a high after coming from behind to beat Atlético Madrid 2–1, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister completing the comeback.
