Tottenham Identify 22-Year-Old Villarreal Star as Potential Pedro Porro Replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping a close eye on Villarreal right-back Alex Freeman as they prepare for the possibility of losing Pedro Porro in the future.

According to reports, Spurs are determined to keep Porro, who recently signed a long-term contract running until 2031. However, interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona could complicate the situation, with reports suggesting the Spanish defender may consider returning to his homeland in 2027.

Spurs Turn Attention to Alex Freeman

With uncertainty surrounding Porro’s long-term future, Tottenham have reportedly identified Freeman as a possible successor.

The 22-year-old American international has attracted attention following his impressive progress since joining Villarreal from Orlando City in January 2026.

Freeman made nine La Liga appearances during the second half of last season and is now working towards establishing himself as an important member of the Spanish club’s squad.

His performances have also earned him recognition at international level, with the versatile defender receiving his first senior United States call-up in March before featuring at the 2026 World Cup.

Premier League Rivals Also Interested

Tottenham are not the only club monitoring Freeman’s development. Manchester United, Chelsea’s ownership group BlueCo and Manchester City’s City Football Group have also reportedly shown interest in the young defender.

Freeman’s versatility is another attractive quality, as he can operate on either side of the defence. His pace, athleticism, technical ability and aggressive style could make him a strong option for the Premier League.

However, signing him will not be straightforward. Freeman signed a six-year contract with Villarreal until June 2032, putting the Spanish club in a strong position to demand a substantial transfer fee.

Can Tottenham Secure His Signature?

Tottenham are reportedly considering Freeman as part of their long-term succession planning should Porro decide to leave.

Nevertheless, Villarreal may be reluctant to sell such a promising player after only a short period at the club. Spurs could also face serious competition from other interested teams.

For now, Freeman remains a reported transfer target rather than a confirmed signing, and much will depend on Porro’s future and Villarreal’s willingness to negotiate.
