XAVI SIMONS DELIVERS HUGE TOTTENHAM INJURY UPDATE AS RETURN DATE EMERGES

Tottenham Hotspur have received encouraging news regarding Xavi Simons as the Dutch international continues his recovery from a serious knee injury that brought his previous campaign to an early end.

The attacking midfielder has been making steady progress in his rehabilitation and has regularly shared updates on social media, giving Spurs supporters reasons to remain optimistic about his eventual return.

SIMONS TARGETS DECEMBER RETURN

According to the latest report from To The Lane and Back’s sister publication Roundtable, Simons is targeting a return in late December, while Tottenham are hoping to have him available in early January.

However, these dates remain tentative, and the midfielder will need to complete his rehabilitation before being cleared to return to competitive football.

Simons has been sidelined since rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in April.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury following a collision with Hugo Bueno. Despite attempting to continue playing, he eventually had to leave the pitch on a stretcher.

He subsequently underwent surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign and preventing him from representing the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup.

A MAJOR BLOW FOR TOTTENHAM

Simons’ injury came at a difficult time for Tottenham, who lost one of their important creative players during a crucial stage of their fight to remain in the Premier League.

His absence, alongside injuries to other key players, reduced the team’s attacking options and placed additional pressure on manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Before joining Spurs, Simons developed his reputation at several European clubs, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven and RB Leipzig.

He enjoyed an impressive spell at PSV, scoring 19 league goals in the 2022/23 campaign and sharing the Eredivisie Golden Boot.

He later continued his development at RB Leipzig before completing his move to Tottenham in August 2025.

During his first campaign in north London, Simons scored five goals in 41 appearances across all competitions before his season was interrupted by the serious knee injury.

WHY HIS RETURN COULD BE CRUCIAL

Tottenham will be eager to welcome Simons back because of the creativity, technical ability and attacking intelligence he brings to the team.

The Dutchman could play an important role as a number 10 in De Zerbi’s system, operating between the opposition’s defensive and midfield lines to create opportunities for his teammates.

His return would also give the manager another attacking option as Spurs look to build consistency and compete for important honours.

Nevertheless, Tottenham will need to remain patient and ensure that Simons completes every stage of his recovery without unnecessary pressure.

For now, the focus remains on his rehabilitation, with late December reportedly his personal target and early January the club’s preferred timeframe.

Tottenham supporters will be hoping the talented midfielder can return to full fitness and make a strong impact when he eventually gets back on the pitch.
