Roberto De Zerbi Wanted to Bring Former Marseille Striker Amine Gouiri to Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi reportedly attempted to reunite with his former striker, Amine Gouiri, during the summer transfer window, but the move failed to materialise.
According to reports from France, De Zerbi viewed the Marseille forward as a potential addition to his Tottenham squad after previously working with him at the French club.
Gouiri played under the Italian manager at Marseille, where he impressed with his performances in attack. Their previous working relationship reportedly made the Algeria international an attractive option as Tottenham looked to strengthen their forward line.
Tottenham’s Interest in Gouiri

Tottenham were reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Gouiri during the summer. However, completing a deal depended partly on the north London club moving some of their existing forwards out of the squad.
Dominic Solanke and Richarlison were the players whose departures could have created an opportunity for Spurs to pursue the Marseille attacker. Neither striker left the club, making it difficult for Tottenham to proceed with their plans to bring Gouiri to the Premier League.
As a result, the proposed reunion between De Zerbi and his former player never happened, leaving Gouiri at Marseille.
De Zerbi’s Previous Experience With Gouiri

De Zerbi already knew the forward’s qualities from their time together in France. Gouiri had shown that he could contribute goals and assists, making him a player the Tottenham manager was reportedly keen to work with again.
The striker’s ability to operate in attacking positions would have offered Spurs another option in the final third, particularly as the club considered ways to improve its attacking strength.
Despite Tottenham’s reported interest, the transfer ultimately depended on squad changes that did not take place before the window closed.
For now, Gouiri remains at Marseille, while Tottenham must continue with their existing attacking options. A future move has not been confirmed.
