FABRIZIO ROMANO REVEALS HOW LIVERPOOL MISSED OUT ON KHVICHA KVARATSKHELIA!

Liverpool reportedly made a serious attempt to sign Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia before he eventually joined Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli in January 2025.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Reds were genuinely interested in bringing the talented attacker to Anfield. However, despite their interest, Liverpool could not complete the deal, allowing PSG to secure his signature.

🔴 LIVERPOOL WERE SERIOUSLY INTERESTED

Kvaratskhelia was one of Europe’s most exciting attacking players during his time at Napoli. His impressive dribbling, creativity, pace and ability to score important goals attracted interest from several major European clubs.

Liverpool were among the teams monitoring his situation as uncertainty surrounding his future at Napoli increased.

Speaking about the transfer, Romano explained that Liverpool were keen to sign the Georgian international when he decided to leave Napoli in January 2025.

Chelsea were also interested in the winger, but their attempts to complete a deal proved unsuccessful. Romano revealed that Chelsea had even considered including Mykhailo Mudryk in negotiations with Napoli.

Liverpool, meanwhile, were also trying to secure the player’s services but ultimately failed to bring him to Anfield.

🔵 WHY PSG WON THE RACE

According to Romano, PSG presented Kvaratskhelia with a highly ambitious sporting project, which played a significant role in convincing him to move to France.

The French champions were determined to strengthen their attacking options and saw the Georgian winger as an important addition to their squad.

PSG eventually reached an agreement with Napoli, signing Kvaratskhelia in January 2025 for an initial fee reported to be around €70 million.

His arrival gave PSG another dangerous attacking option capable of creating opportunities, beating defenders and contributing goals.

💰 LIVERPOOL’S PREVIOUS TRANSFER ATTEMPT

Reports from 2024 also suggested that Liverpool had explored a major deal for Kvaratskhelia before PSG completed their move.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Liverpool had offered approximately €100 million to Napoli during the summer transfer window, with the intention of allowing the player to remain at Napoli for the rest of the season.

Napoli reportedly rejected that proposal because they wanted to keep their star winger.

However, the reports surrounding Liverpool’s earlier approach differ from accounts of the January negotiations, when the Reds ultimately did not proceed with a formal bid.

⚽ COULD KVARATSKHELIA HAVE CHANGED LIVERPOOL’S ATTACK?

Liverpool initially continued to rely on their existing attacking options, including Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo, rather than completing a deal for the Georgian.

Kvaratskhelia’s ability to take on defenders, create chances and operate from the left wing could have provided Liverpool with another attacking dimension.

His performances for PSG have since strengthened the argument that Liverpool missed an opportunity to recruit an elite winger.

Nevertheless, it remains impossible to know how differently Liverpool’s results would have turned out had he chosen Anfield instead of Paris.

👀 WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Liverpool supporters may continue to debate whether the club should have pushed harder to sign Kvaratskhelia.

For PSG, securing his signature represented an important addition to their attacking options. For Liverpool, the transfer remains an example of how difficult it can be to compete with Europe’s biggest clubs for highly sought-after players.

Liverpool fans, should the Reds have done everything possible to sign Kvaratskhelia, or was PSG always the better destination for him?
