TRANSFER NEWS: CHELSEA FACE MAJOR OBSTACLE IN FLORIAN WIRTZ PURSUIT!

Chelsea could face a difficult challenge in their reported pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz, with the German international reportedly determined to remain at Anfield despite growing transfer speculation.

According to reports, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is interested in reuniting with Wirtz in 2027. The pair previously worked together at Bayer Leverkusen, where they enjoyed considerable success, including winning the Bundesliga title in 2024.

Alonso knows Wirtz’s qualities well and could believe that working together again would help the midfielder rediscover the outstanding form he displayed in Germany.

WIRTZ HAS STRUGGLED TO MEET EXPECTATIONS

Liverpool signed Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 for a reported £116 million, making him one of the club’s most expensive signings.

However, the 23-year-old has found it difficult to reproduce his best performances consistently in English football. His adaptation to the Premier League has attracted criticism, with some supporters expecting greater contributions in terms of goals and assists.

Despite these difficulties, Liverpool remain confident that the attacking midfielder can fulfil his potential at Anfield.

The club are reportedly unwilling to give up on him so early, believing that patience and the right tactical approach could help him become the influential player they expected when they signed him.

LIVERPOOL HAVE A STRONG POSITION

One of the biggest obstacles facing Chelsea is Wirtz’s long-term contract with Liverpool, which runs until 2030.

This gives Liverpool significant control over his future and puts them in a strong position to reject any offers they do not consider acceptable.

The Reds are reportedly determined to give the German international more time to establish himself rather than sanctioning an early departure.

Bayern Munich and other European giants have also been linked with the midfielder, although speculation about interest does not mean that any club has submitted an official bid.

COULD CHELSEA TRY AGAIN IN 2027?

Chelsea’s reported interest could become a talking point ahead of the 2027 transfer window, particularly because of Alonso’s previous relationship with Wirtz.

Nevertheless, convincing Liverpool to sell a player they invested so heavily in could prove extremely difficult.

For now, Wirtz is reportedly focused on continuing his Liverpool career and demonstrating why the club paid such a substantial fee to secure his signature.

His performances over the coming months could be crucial in determining how the transfer speculation develops.

The big question is whether Wirtz will eventually rediscover his best form at Liverpool or whether Chelsea could make a serious attempt to bring him to Stamford Bridge in 2027.
