TOTTENHAM COULD FACE ANOTHER FA CHARGE FOLLOWING BENTANCUR’S RED CARD!

Tottenham Hotspur could face disciplinary action from the Football Association (FA) following the heated scenes that erupted during their 1–1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

According to reports, former Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) chief Keith Hackett believes both Manchester United and Tottenham could face charges following the confrontation involving Rodrigo Bentancur and Luke Shaw.

HOW THE CONTROVERSY UNFOLDED

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, during Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.

After a physical challenge involving Bentancur and Shaw, tensions quickly escalated. Shaw reacted angrily and pushed the Tottenham midfielder to the ground.

Bentancur subsequently got back to his feet and made a head movement towards Shaw, prompting referee Stuart Attwell to show him a straight red card for violent conduct.

The decision was confirmed following a VAR review.

Although Bentancur was sent off, Shaw received a yellow card for his involvement in the confrontation, sparking debate among supporters over whether both players should have received harsher punishment. (goal.com)

WHY TOTTENHAM COULD FACE AN FA CHARGE

Former refereeing chief Keith Hackett believes the incident could have consequences beyond Bentancur’s individual dismissal.

Hackett reportedly argued that the authorities would be concerned about the scenes witnessed at Old Trafford, particularly the confrontation between players and the possibility of further disciplinary breaches.

His view is that both clubs could face scrutiny over the conduct of their players during the incident.

However, the possibility of a charge should not be confused with an official FA decision. The reports indicate that disciplinary action could follow, but this does not mean that either club has already been formally charged. (staging-aws.sports.yahoo.com)

⚽ DE ZERBI REACTS AS SPURS FIGHT BACK

Despite the controversy, Tottenham showed determination to rescue a point.

Manchester United took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the 73rd minute, before Bentancur’s dismissal left Spurs with 10 men.

However, Tottenham refused to give up, and Dominic Solanke scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to secure a 1–1 draw.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi praised his players’ reaction and fighting spirit, describing the performance as an important step towards building a stronger team. (tottenhamhotspur.com)

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Tottenham could now face further questions over the behaviour of their players, while Bentancur must serve the suspension resulting from his red card.

The incident has also reignited discussions about consistency in refereeing and whether both clubs should be held accountable for the confrontation.

For Spurs, the priority will be avoiding further disciplinary problems as De Zerbi continues working to improve the team’s results.
