Liverpool Injury News: Isak & Gakpo Doubts for Man City Clash
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are both currently injured ahead of Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Manchester City at Anfield.
Both attackers returned early from international duty after suffering injuries. Isak picked up a thigh problem while playing for Sweden, while Gakpo suffered an ankle injury during the Netherlands’ game against Serbia.
Iraola says Liverpool will now wait to see whether either player can recover in time for the match, but admitted that neither is currently fit. Isak’s injury has reportedly been described as minor, giving Liverpool some hope of a return.
The timing is particularly difficult for Liverpool because Hugo Ekitike is already out with a long-term Achilles injury. Losing Isak and Gakpo as well would leave Iraola with limited attacking options against a Manchester City side that has won all five of its league matches so far.
Liverpool will host Manchester City on Sunday, October 11, in what is expected to be one of the biggest Premier League games of the weekend.
Isak and Gakpo are not ruled out yet, but both are injured and face a race against time to be available for the City game.
