Real Madrid and Barcelona Step Up Interest in Pedro Porro
Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro is attracting growing attention from two of Spain’s biggest clubs, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona reportedly making enquiries about the right-back.
The 27-year-old has become a potential target for the Spanish giants following his impressive performances for Spain during their successful 2026 World Cup campaign. His displays have further increased his reputation after several seasons playing in England.
According to Spanish journalist Nil Solà, both Real Madrid and Barcelona have made contact regarding Porro as they consider their options at right-back.
Real Madrid have been linked with the defender in the past, while Barcelona have also kept a close eye on his situation. Porro’s performances on the international stage appear to have strengthened the interest from both clubs.
However, Tottenham are in a strong position to resist any approach. Porro signed a new contract with Spurs in June, keeping him at the club until 2031. That long-term agreement means Tottenham have little reason to sell unless they receive a significant offer.
Another obstacle for the Spanish clubs is the absence of a release clause in Porro’s contract. Unlike many La Liga deals, Premier League contracts do not commonly include the same type of mandatory release clauses, meaning any potential transfer would have to be negotiated directly with Tottenham.
Solà has suggested that Porro would welcome the opportunity to return to Spain. However, he also acknowledged that convincing Tottenham to let the player leave would be extremely difficult following his recent contract renewal.
Porro is reportedly happy with life in England but remains open to the idea of joining a major Spanish club if the right opportunity arises.
For now, both Barcelona and Real Madrid appear to be monitoring the situation rather than preparing an immediate move. Barcelona would need to assess whether a deal makes financial and sporting sense, while Real Madrid would also have to persuade Tottenham to enter negotiations.
With Porro tied to Spurs until 2031, a January transfer appears complicated. Nevertheless, his reported desire to return to La Liga has ensured that speculation surrounding his future will continue.
