Liverpool reportedly make contact over Kylian Mbappé
Liverpool have reportedly taken an early step towards a sensational move for Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé, with claims that the club has contacted his mother and representative, Fayza Lamari, about a possible transfer in 2027.
The claim comes from Spanish journalist François Gallardo, who says several Premier League clubs are interested in Mbappé but that Liverpool is the French forward’s preferred destination.
Gallardo reportedly told Spanish outlet Defensa Central that Liverpool have already been in contact with Lamari in recent weeks. He also claims Mbappé is currently unhappy with certain aspects of his situation at Real Madrid, particularly within the dressing room, and could consider leaving the Spanish giants in the summer of 2027.
Mbappé reportedly wants Liverpool
According to the report, Mbappé’s alleged preference for Liverpool is significant because of his previous connection with the club.
Liverpool attempted to sign Mbappé when he was a teenager at Monaco in 2017. Former manager Jürgen Klopp has previously revealed that Liverpool went to extraordinary lengths to convince the young forward, even arranging a private-jet meeting with Mbappé and his family. Mbappé ultimately chose Paris Saint-Germain instead.
Mbappé himself recently revealed that his mother had wanted him to join Liverpool at the time, making the latest reports particularly interesting.
€200m–€250m price tag
The biggest obstacle would be the financial side of the deal.
Gallardo claims a potential transfer could cost Liverpool somewhere between €200 million and €250 million. That would make Mbappé one of the most expensive players in football history.
Real Madrid would also have little reason to make negotiations easy. Mbappé is under contract with the Spanish club until 2029, and Madrid reportedly regard him as the central figure in their project.
There are also reports that Madrid could demand an enormous fee if Mbappé refuses to extend his contract, rather than allowing his situation to run down towards the final year of his deal.
Why could Mbappé leave Madrid?
The central claim is that Mbappé is allegedly not feeling sufficiently supported or appreciated inside the Real Madrid dressing room.
There have also been wider discussions about how Mbappé fits into Madrid’s attack alongside Vinícius Júnior, while Jude Bellingham’s role has changed since Mbappé’s arrival. These tactical and squad issues have contributed to speculation about Madrid’s long-term attacking setup.
However, this part of the story comes primarily from Gallardo’s reporting and should not be treated as confirmed fact.
Real Madrid’s possible replacement
One interesting detail in the report is that Michael Olise has been mentioned as a possible replacement should Mbappé eventually leave Madrid.
That would represent a major change for Real Madrid, considering how much the club invested in building its attack around Mbappé.
Liverpool’s situation
For Liverpool, signing Mbappé would be an enormous statement. The club would potentially be bringing one of the world’s biggest attacking stars to Anfield, but the financial commitment would be huge.
The Reds also already have several high-profile attacking options, meaning a Mbappé deal would require significant planning regarding wages, squad structure and playing positions.
How reliable is the story?
This is the important part: Liverpool have not officially confirmed negotiations with Mbappé, and neither Real Madrid nor Mbappé’s representatives have publicly confirmed that a transfer agreement is being discussed.
The entire 2027 claim currently stems largely from François Gallardo’s report. Other outlets have repeated the story, but some have also pointed out that there is currently no strong independent confirmation of the alleged talks.
So, at this stage, it is best described as a major transfer rumour rather than a done deal.
In short: Liverpool are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing Mbappé to Anfield in 2027, with claims that the player prefers Liverpool and that contact has been made with Fayza Lamari. A potential €200m–€250m fee would make the deal extremely difficult, while Real Madrid are reportedly reluctant to lose their superstar.
