Tottenham are reportedly considering Beşiktaş striker Oh Hyeon-gyu as they look for another centre-forward option for the January transfer window. The latest report from Spurs Web claims that former Tottenham captain Heung-min Son has recommended his South Korea teammate to the club.
The interest comes after Spurs’ difficult start in front of goal. Reports say Tottenham are already considering attacking reinforcements for January, with the club looking for a striker who can provide a more physical presence in the central area.
Oh, 25, is currently with Beşiktaş. He previously played for Celtic in Scotland before moving to Genk in Belgium and then joining Beşiktaş in early 2026. Beşiktaş paid around €14–15 million to sign him from Genk, depending on how the fee is reported.
The South Korean forward is viewed as a striker who can offer physical strength, aerial ability, pressing and movement inside the box. His previous experience with Celtic also means he has already played British football, something that could potentially make adapting to the Premier League easier.
Son’s alleged role
The interesting part of the latest story is Son. According to the reports, Son has recommended Oh to Tottenham and is believed to have provided an opinion on whether the striker could fit the club’s football. The two have played together for South Korea, and Oh has reportedly assisted Son at international level.
However, the claim that Son has personally told Tottenham to sign Oh should be treated as reported information rather than a confirmed statement from Son or Tottenham.
Why Tottenham are looking at him
Tottenham’s reported interest is largely connected to their need for more options up front. Dominic Solanke has carried much of the traditional No.9 responsibility, while Mathys Tel and Omar Marmoush can also operate in attacking roles. Reports have suggested Spurs could still want another specialist centre-forward.
Oh’s profile is therefore different from some of Tottenham’s other attacking options: he is a 6ft-plus, physical central striker capable of competing for aerial balls, holding up play and pressing defenders.
Would Beşiktaş sell?
That’s another major question. Beşiktaş reportedly paid a significant fee for Oh and have him under contract until 2029, so they are not under immediate pressure to sell. Turkish reports have suggested the club would be reluctant to let him leave in January unless Tottenham or another interested club makes a sufficiently attractive offer.
There is also previous evidence of Premier League interest. Tottenham and Manchester United had reportedly monitored Oh before, while other English clubs such as Fulham had also explored him during his time at Genk.
So, at this stage, this is a transfer link rather than a completed deal: Tottenham are reportedly monitoring Oh Hyeon-gyu for January, with Son’s alleged recommendation adding another angle to the story. There is no confirmed Tottenham bid or agreement with Beşiktaş at the moment.
