New Pedro Porro return date revealed after star sidesteps Tottenham medical department

Tottenham receive major Pedro Porro injury boost as early return now possible

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a positive update on Pedro Porro’s recovery, with the defender reportedly working intensively in Spain as he looks to return from his hamstring injury earlier than initially expected.

Porro suffered the injury just 19 minutes into Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa before the international break, with the initial expectation being that the right-back could spend around four to six weeks on the sidelines.

However, rather than simply waiting for the injury to heal, Porro returned to his native Extremadura during the international break and linked up with specialists he has worked with for years.

The Tottenham defender has been undergoing additional fitness and rehabilitation work with physiotherapist David de la Hera, who runs the Axis Polyclinic in Badajoz. Porro also visited SPZ Iron training club alongside de la Hera, where specialists assessed different aspects of his physical preparation and recovery.

The work is reportedly focused not only on his hamstring but also on strengthening the surrounding muscles and ensuring he reaches optimum fitness before returning to competitive action.

Porro’s decision to continue his rehabilitation in Spain could now prove beneficial, with reports suggesting that the 27-year-old may return slightly earlier than originally forecast.

He is not expected to be ready for Tottenham’s meeting with Manchester United when the Premier League resumes on October 10, but there is growing hope that he could be available for the home clash against Coventry on October 19.

If that target comes too soon, the next potential return date could be Tottenham’s London derby against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on October 24.

Porro’s return would be particularly important for Roberto De Zerbi, whose side have endured a difficult opening to the campaign. With the Spanish international regarded as one of Tottenham’s key players, his availability could provide the manager with another major option on the right side of his defence.

Until then, Archie Gray is expected to continue deputising in Porro’s absence as Tottenham wait for their influential full-back to complete his recovery.
