Dejan Kulusevski has provided an encouraging update on his recovery as Tottenham Hotspur continue to monitor his progress ahead of his long-awaited return.
The Sweden international has been out of competitive action since suffering a serious knee injury against Crystal Palace in May 2025. What initially appeared to be a relatively minor problem developed into a much longer rehabilitation process, with Kulusevski eventually undergoing further treatment on the troublesome knee.
His extended absence has kept him out for more than a year and has also cost him the chance to feature for Sweden at the 2026 World Cup.
There had been renewed optimism recently after Kulusevski returned to Tottenham’s first-team training under head coach Roberto De Zerbi. However, his comeback suffered another interruption when the midfielder experienced a minor setback while adapting to the demands of full training.

That development meant Tottenham had to manage his workload carefully rather than immediately pushing him towards competitive action.
Kulusevski has since returned to training with his Spurs teammates, providing another positive sign that his recovery is moving in the right direction.
The midfielder’s progress has also been praised by fellow Sweden international and Tottenham teammate Lucas Bergvall. Bergvall described Kulusevski as performing extremely well in training and highlighted the intensity he has shown during his rehabilitation.
For Tottenham, Kulusevski’s eventual return could provide another attacking option for De Zerbi. Before his injury, he was an important part of the team’s midfield and attacking play, capable of operating in several positions.
The priority, however, remains making sure he is fully ready before being thrown back into Premier League action. After such a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Tottenham are expected to take a cautious approach to his comeback.
Kulusevski’s latest progress therefore represents another step forward rather than confirmation of an immediate return to the starting XI. His return to full training gives Spurs and the player renewed hope that his long wait to play competitive football again is finally approaching its end.
