Liverpool midfielder James Balagizi confirms Anfield exit after 11 years

James Balagizi has officially announced his departure from Liverpool after spending 11 years with the club, bringing an end to his long journey through the Reds’ academy.

The 22-year-old midfielder joined Liverpool at the age of 11 and progressed through several youth levels. Although he was included in the first-team setup on occasions, he never made an official senior appearance for the Reds. He was an unused substitute twice during the 2021/22 season.

Balagizi confirmed his departure on social media, reflecting positively on his time at Liverpool and thanking the teammates, coaches, staff and supporters who had been part of his journey. He described representing the club for such a significant part of his life as an honour.

During his development, Balagizi enjoyed loan spells with Crawley Town, Wigan Athletic, Kilmarnock and Forest Green Rovers. However, several of those spells were disrupted, while injury problems also affected his progress.

Despite never breaking into Liverpool’s senior team, he leaves with plenty of experience from his years at the club. His next destination remains uncertain, with a move to an EFL club or a new challenge abroad possible as he looks to continue his professional career.
