🚨 LIVERPOOL EYE TOTTENHAM CAPTAIN MICKY VAN DE VEN AS VAN DIJK SUCCESSOR
Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close watch on Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven as they continue planning for the long-term future of their defence.
The Dutch centre-back has reportedly been on Liverpool’s radar for some time, and his profile is understood to appeal to the Reds as they prepare for life beyond Virgil van Dijk. Van Dijk’s current contract runs until June 2027, meaning Liverpool are already having to consider their options for the next stage of their back line.
Van de Ven has several qualities that could make him attractive to Liverpool. The 25-year-old is left-footed, possesses exceptional recovery pace and has established himself as a Premier League defender. His ability to cover large spaces could also suit a team that regularly plays with a high defensive line.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has claimed that Van de Ven has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time and believes the defender fits several of the characteristics the club could be looking for in a future replacement for Van Dijk.
However, convincing Tottenham to sell their captain would be a major challenge.
Van de Ven only signed a new long-term contract with Spurs this summer and was subsequently appointed the club’s men’s first-team captain for the 2026/27 campaign. Tottenham have publicly positioned him as an important part of their plans for the future.
The defender has also become an important figure at Tottenham since joining from Wolfsburg in 2023. Before the current campaign, he had already made 96 appearances for the club in all competitions and scored 10 goals.
Liverpool’s interest is therefore complicated by Tottenham’s position. Spurs are unlikely to willingly lose one of their key defenders to another Premier League club, particularly after making him captain and tying him down to a fresh long-term deal.
