Liverpool have reportedly received a major boost in their plans to sign Lamine Camara in 2027 after the midfielder’s proposed move to Chelsea collapsed at the final stage.
The 22-year-old Monaco midfielder had been close to joining Chelsea as a potential replacement for Enzo Fernández. However, Monaco ultimately pulled out of the agreement, leaving Camara at the club.
That development could work in Liverpool’s favour. Reports indicate that the Reds had already made contact with both Camara’s representatives and Monaco before the transfer deadline to make it clear that the Senegal international remains high on their list of targets for 2027.
According to Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport, Liverpool officials made several calls to Camara’s camp, including on deadline day, telling the player that they would remain interested if his Chelsea transfer failed to materialise.
Liverpool were not originally planning to sign another midfielder this summer following Curtis Jones’ move to Inter. Their position could only have changed if Alexis Mac Allister had left the club.
Camara had been expected to join Chelsea for approximately £47 million, and the Blues had reportedly agreed personal terms with the midfielder on a six-year contract. Monaco, however, decided against completing the deal.
The situation means Liverpool could now have a clearer path toward Camara in the future. The midfielder is reportedly still interested in playing in the Premier League, while a January departure from Monaco has not been completely ruled out.
For Liverpool, the collapse of the Chelsea deal therefore represents an opportunity. The Reds can continue monitoring Camara’s development and potentially make a move in 2027, when they could look to strengthen their midfield options.
In short, Chelsea’s failed attempt to sign Camara may have unintentionally handed Liverpool a significant advantage in the race for the talented Monaco midfielder.
