Tottenham’s stance on Micky van de Ven amid Liverpool’s interest.

Tottenham refuse to entertain Micky van de Ven sale

Tottenham have reportedly made it clear that they do not intend to sell captain Micky van de Ven, despite Liverpool monitoring the Dutch defender as a possible long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool’s interest is understandable. Van de Ven is 25, left-footed, extremely quick and already experienced in the Premier League. His recovery pace makes him particularly attractive to a team that wants to defend with a high defensive line. Liverpool have been looking at potential options for the period after Van Dijk, whose contract is approaching its final year.

However, Tottenham have placed themselves in a very strong negotiating position. Van de Ven signed a new contract in August that runs until 2031, and he was subsequently appointed Tottenham captain. Spurs therefore have no immediate financial or contractual pressure to sell him.

Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke said Tottenham are relaxed about the situation and that the club “won’t be entertaining a sale anytime soon.” He explained that Van de Ven is regarded as an important part of Tottenham’s plans and that his long-term contract gives Spurs significant control over his future.

Liverpool are not the only club watching him. Manchester United are also monitoring Van de Ven, with both clubs reportedly at the observation stage rather than having made a formal bid.

Reports have suggested that a future deal could require a huge fee, with figures around £80m–£90m previously mentioned. But Tottenham’s latest position suggests even a substantial offer would not automatically convince them to sell their captain.

There is also another factor for Liverpool: Jeremy Jacquet. The young French centre-back has impressed since arriving at Liverpool and has increasingly looked like someone who could eventually succeed Van Dijk. His development could reduce Liverpool’s need to spend heavily on another centre-back.

What this means

For now, Liverpool can continue monitoring Van de Ven, but Tottenham hold the advantage. Spurs have him tied down until 2031, have given him the captaincy and view him as one of the players around whom they want to build.

So, despite Liverpool’s interest, there is currently no indication that Tottenham are preparing to sell Micky van de Ven.
