Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa could reportedly be heading toward another uncertain spell at Anfield, with fresh reports suggesting that a January departure is becoming increasingly possible.
The Italian international has struggled to establish himself as a regular since joining Liverpool from Juventus in 2024. Persistent injury problems have interrupted his progress, while his chances of featuring regularly have become even more doubtful under manager Andoni Iraola.
A major concern emerged when Chiesa was left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad, suggesting that he may currently be behind several other attacking options in the manager’s plans.
According to Italian journalist Emanuele Cammaroto, there are indications that Chiesa could consider returning to Serie A in January. He suggested that Liverpool may be willing to make the 28-year-old available to Italian clubs, with Napoli mentioned as one possible destination.
Liverpool’s summer recruitment has also increased competition for attacking positions. The arrivals of Bradley Barcola and Victor Muñoz, combined with Cody Gakpo remaining at the club, have made it harder for Chiesa to secure regular minutes.
From Liverpool’s perspective, allowing Chiesa to leave could potentially benefit both sides. The winger would have an opportunity to play more consistently and rebuild his career, while Liverpool could reduce their wage commitments and create additional space in the squad.
However, an exit is not yet certain. Chiesa’s father has previously indicated that his son remains happy at Liverpool. Still, the report suggests that being happy at Anfield and getting enough playing time are two different matters.
For now, Chiesa’s future remains unresolved, but if his lack of regular football continues, a January move back to Italy could become a realistic possibility.
