Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero is not expected to join Manchester United this summer, as Spurs are focused on strengthening Roberto De Zerbi’s squad rather than selling key players.
Reports from Argentina claimed Manchester United were preparing a bid for the 28-year-old defender, but sources suggest those rumours are inaccurate, with Romero not among the club’s transfer targets.
Despite this, Tottenham could consider offers for the Argentine centre-back after a disappointing 2025/26 season. Romero received two red cards, served a suspension, and missed the final six matches due to a knee injury. He also drew attention after returning to Argentina to continue his rehabilitation before Spurs’ crucial final games of the season.
While Romero’s future remains uncertain, Ben Davies has committed his future to the club by signing a new one-year contract, extending his stay in North London into a 13th season.
Tottenham are also exploring goalkeeper options and have reportedly made an approach for PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. The 24-year-old French international is said to be attracting interest from both Spurs and Besiktas after falling out of favour in Paris.
According to reports, Chevalier is willing to reject more lucrative offers elsewhere in favour of joining a project that offers greater sporting ambition. His potential arrival could become more likely if Guglielmo Vicario leaves the club, with the Italian goalkeeper heavily linked with a return to Serie A.
Meanwhile, Spurs remain interested in Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, although they face competition from Aston Villa for his signature.
