Liverpool could miss out on a key defensive target as Tottenham have reportedly opened talks to sign powerful Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer, who had been identified as a potential replacement for Ibrahima Konate.
Both clubs are reshaping their backlines this summer. Liverpool are preparing for Konate’s expected move to Real Madrid and have already secured Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, though another senior centre-back remains a priority.
Tottenham, meanwhile, have strengthened their defence with Marcos Senesi and are pushing to complete a deal for Jan Paul van Hecke. With Cristian Romero likely to leave for Atletico Madrid and uncertainty surrounding Micky van de Ven’s future, Spurs are also targeting further reinforcements.
According to reports from Italy, Tottenham have now begun discussions with Juventus over Bremer. The Brazilian defender has previously been linked with Liverpool, but Spurs appear to have taken the lead in the race. Bremer’s £50m release clause becomes active from July 1 to August 10, making a deal relatively straightforward if all parties agree.
The 29-year-old is said to be open to a new challenge, while Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly a strong admirer of the defender, having followed his progress closely during his time in Italian football. Bremer was named in the Serie A Team of the Season for three consecutive campaigns between 2022 and 2024.
Elsewhere, Tottenham are also advancing negotiations with Manchester City over a potential £60m move for Savinho and remain interested in bringing Joao Palhinha back to the club, although discussions with Bayern Munich over the transfer fee are ongoing.
