Tottenham are reportedly expecting Cristian Romero to leave this summer and have already submitted a formal bid for Jan Paul van Hecke as they prepare for a defensive reshuffle.

Tottenham are reportedly planning for a future without Cristian Romero, with Roberto De Zerbi said to have identified Jan Paul van Hecke as his preferred replacement. Although Spurs’ opening bid for the Brighton defender was rejected, the club remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached.

Romero is no longer considered central to De Zerbi’s long-term plans, and Tottenham are believed to be willing to listen to offers for the Argentine if their valuation is met. Interest from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid continues to fuel speculation over his future.

Van Hecke, who previously worked under De Zerbi at Brighton, has emerged as Tottenham’s leading target. The Dutch defender is admired for his physical presence, aerial ability, and composure in possession, qualities Spurs believe would make him an ideal successor to Romero.

Having tracked Van Hecke’s progress for more than a year, Tottenham are expected to return with an improved offer as they push to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season.
