Tottenham Plot Record-Breaking Move for Liverpool Star Cody Gakpo
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a club-record bid for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, with Roberto De Zerbi keen to make the Dutch international a key part of his rebuild in North London.
Reports suggest Spurs could offer around £73.5 million for Gakpo, a fee that would surpass the club’s current transfer record and demonstrate their ambition under De Zerbi. The Liverpool attacker has been heavily linked with a summer exit amid speculation surrounding his future at Anfield.
De Zerbi is believed to be a long-time admirer of Gakpo, valuing his versatility, physical presence, finishing ability and intelligence in possession. The Dutch forward is capable of playing across the front line, making him an ideal fit for the Italian’s tactical plans.
Tottenham view Gakpo as a player who could significantly strengthen their attack as they look to bounce back from a disappointing campaign. His ability to score goals, create chances and link play has reportedly impressed both De Zerbi and the club’s hierarchy.
Liverpool, however, are unlikely to let the forward leave cheaply. While the Reds may consider a substantial offer, any interested club would need to meet a significant valuation for a player who remains an important member of their squad.
If Spurs move forward with a £73.5 million bid, Gakpo would become the most expensive signing in Tottenham’s history, making the transfer one of the standout stories of the summer window.
