Tottenham Hotspur remain in the hunt for a new winger this summer as they continue shaping Roberto De Zerbi’s squad ahead of the new campaign.
Despite an aggressive start to the transfer window, Spurs have yet to bolster their attacking options. Much of the club’s business has focused on strengthening the defence and midfield, but attention is now expected to shift towards adding more quality in the final third.
After back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League, Tottenham are determined to overhaul the squad, with reinforcements needed across several positions. A new winger is believed to be among the club’s top remaining priorities.
According to reports from Portugal, Spurs are interested in Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup. The Norwegian enhanced his reputation with a standout World Cup campaign, prompting Benfica to raise his valuation to around £43 million before opening negotiations.
Tottenham are not alone in the race, however, with several Premier League clubs also monitoring the talented attacker.
Schjelderup has returned to Benfica following Norway’s World Cup exit at the hands of England, and speculation surrounding his future is expected to intensify. The highly-rated winger, who has been described as “special,” is reportedly set to meet with manager Marco Silva and Benfica president Rui Costa to discuss his next move amid growing transfer interest.
Spurs keen to strengthen the flanks
Improving the wide areas has become an important objective for Tottenham after a frustrating campaign. Mathys Tel struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, while injuries limited the impact of Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski for much of the season.
With Randal Kolo Muani also returning to his parent club after his loan spell, Spurs have lost another option who was frequently deployed on the wing despite being a natural centre-forward.
As a result, signing a specialist wide player is expected to be one of Tottenham’s key priorities before the transfer window closes.
