Tottenham Hotspur have wasted no time making their mark under Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian has made an immediate impact, steering Spurs to Premier League survival while overseeing a remarkable summer rebuild that has already seen the club smash its transfer record twice.
First came the arrival of Mateus Fernandes before Sandro Tonali followed in another blockbuster deal, highlighting the club’s ambition. Attention has now shifted to strengthening the attack, with AC Milan winger Rafael Leao and Bournemouth sensation Eli Junior Kroupi both emerging as major targets.
Why Tottenham want Leao and Kroupi
Tottenham’s need for attacking reinforcements is clear after a disappointing campaign in front of goal.
When Ange Postecoglou arrived three years ago, he inherited Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, arguably one of Europe’s most dangerous attacking duos. Kane’s move to Bayern Munich left an enormous gap that Spurs have never truly filled, while Son departed last summer, marking the end of another era.
Managerial instability followed, with Postecoglou leaving before Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor also came and went, while injuries and poor performances compounded the club’s problems.
Although Tottenham’s defensive struggles were obvious, their lack of firepower proved just as damaging. Richarlison finished as the club’s leading scorer with only 11 goals in all competitions, while defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero were among the team’s highest scorers. That is far from the profile of a side aiming to compete near the top of the table.
It explains why De Zerbi is determined to reshape his attack.
Kroupi is viewed as one of Europe’s brightest young forwards after scoring 13 Premier League goals in his debut campaign, the highest total ever recorded by a teenager in their first Premier League season. Meanwhile, Leao brings proven quality, having reached double figures for goals in each of the last five seasons. Spurs have already held discussions with the Portuguese star’s representatives.
Another £60m attacking option emerges
While Leao and Kroupi remain high on Tottenham’s shortlist, another exciting option has entered the picture.
Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush is reportedly attracting serious interest from both Spurs and Newcastle, with formal talks said to have taken place over a potential move. A deal worth around £60 million could be enough to tempt City into negotiations.
Although Marmoush endured a quieter 2025/26 season due to injuries and AFCON commitments, managing eight goals while making only eight league starts, his previous campaign showcased exactly why he’s so highly regarded. He scored 28 goals and added 17 assists before earning his move to England.
His versatility makes him an especially attractive target for De Zerbi. Comfortable as a centre-forward, winger or second striker, Marmoush offers the tactical flexibility Tottenham crave.
Like Son, he thrives by attacking defenders directly and driving into dangerous areas with pace and purpose. His dribbling numbers place him among Europe’s elite attackers, while his intelligent movement, clinical finishing and creative ability mirror many of the qualities that made Son such an influential figure in North London.
Landing Marmoush could therefore solve two major problems at once. Tottenham would secure a proven, versatile forward capable of replacing many of Son’s qualities while also providing a more affordable alternative to the highly sought-after Kroupi.
If Spurs can complete the deal, De Zerbi could add another dynamic weapon to an attack desperately in need of fresh inspiration ahead of the new season.
