Steven Gerrard believes Tottenham are just TWO world-class

Steven Gerrard Identifies Two Signings That Could Turn Tottenham Into Premier League Title Contenders

Football can change dramatically in just two weeks, and Tottenham Hotspur are a perfect example of that. Following consecutive victories over Coventry City and Chelsea, the mood surrounding Roberto De Zerbi’s side has improved significantly.

Before their victory over Coventry, concerns were growing that Spurs could be dragged into another relegation battle this season. However, back-to-back wins have changed the conversation, with Tottenham now sitting just three points away from the top six.

With a potentially favourable run of fixtures ahead, the North London club have an opportunity to climb the table and move closer to the European qualification places.

Steven Gerrard Believes Tottenham Are Two Signings Away From Becoming Title Contenders

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes Tottenham already possess enough quality across most areas of the pitch to compete among the Premier League’s top sides.

However, the former England international has identified two positions that need significant improvement: centre-forward and goalkeeper.

According to Gerrard, bringing in a prolific striker and an elite goalkeeper could transform Spurs into genuine Premier League title challengers.

Speaking on The Overlap Daily, Gerrard questioned Richarlison’s goal-scoring record and suggested that the Brazilian had fallen out of favour with De Zerbi.

He said Tottenham have several talented attacking options, including Dominic Solanke and Mathys Tel, but argued that the team would reach another level if they had a striker of Harry Kane’s calibre.

Gerrard explained that a world-class goalkeeper alongside a proven goalscorer could make Tottenham serious contenders for major honours because of the quality already present in the squad.

He also praised several Spurs players for their performances against Chelsea, highlighting Sandro Tonali’s display, Mateus Fernandes’ improvement and James Maddison’s influence before the midfielder was forced off with an injury concern.

Gerrard particularly emphasised Maddison’s importance, describing him as a player who brings personality, character and confidence to the team. He also expressed hope that the midfielder’s injury would prove to be minor.

Turning his attention to Tottenham’s goalkeeping situation, Gerrard suggested that Antonin Kinsky still has work to do before he can be considered a truly elite option, despite acknowledging his ability.

He concluded that a world-class number nine and a top-level goalkeeper could make a tremendous difference to Tottenham’s ambitions.

Tottenham Already Exploring Striker and Goalkeeper Options

Interestingly, recent transfer reports suggest Tottenham’s recruitment plans could align with Gerrard’s assessment.

Signing a new striker is reportedly among the club’s leading priorities ahead of the January transfer window, with Spurs said to be identifying potential candidates to strengthen their attacking options.

The club have also been linked with Brazilian goalkeeping prospect Otavio. However, it remains unclear whether Tottenham view him primarily as a developing backup or as someone capable of challenging for the starting position.

Strengthening these two positions could prove crucial if De Zerbi hopes to build a squad capable of consistently competing for major trophies.

Although Tottenham have shown encouraging signs in their recent performances, adding greater firepower up front and more certainty between the posts could help them become a more complete team.

Tottenham Players Have Their Sights Set on Major Honours

Tottenham’s ambitions appear to extend beyond simply climbing the Premier League table.

Following the 2-0 victory over Chelsea, Mateus Fernandes made it clear that the squad want to compete for silverware and establish a winning mentality at the club.

The midfielder stressed the importance of fighting for every ball and every minute, particularly given Tottenham’s previous struggles at Stamford Bridge.

He also insisted that the players remain committed to working hard, believing in one another and doing everything necessary to compete for major honours.

With confidence growing after two consecutive victories, Tottenham will hope to build on their recent progress.

The question now is whether the club’s hierarchy will provide De Zerbi with the additional quality required to turn those ambitions into reality.
